Andrew Safer

Andrew Safer is a mindfulness-awareness meditation instructor and trainer, program developer, workshop facilitator, author, and presenter on mindfulness in everyday life. In 1968 he began the practice of mindfulness in the Zen tradition, continued in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, and became an authorized meditation instructor through Shambhala International in Halifax in 1993. He began offering mindfulness workshops in St. John’s in 2010 and founded Safer Mindfulness Inc. in 2014. Andrew presents various 6- to 12-week workshop series including “Workplace Mindfulness”, “Building Resilience with Mindfulness”, “Anxiety, Stress & Mindfulness”, “Mindfulness for Depression”, “Mindfulness in Recovery” (Addictions), and “Suicide Prevention Through Mindfulness Training”. Andrew has conducted mindfulness training for businesses, engineers and geoscientists, mental health and addictions specialists, mental health consumers, health care managers; social workers, university faculty, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students; high school students; student physicians; police; unemployed youth; male prison inmates; and the general public. For one-on-one mindfulness consultations, Andrew meets with clients over Zoom. In his programs, he assigns readings from one of his books: Anxiety, Stress & Mindfulness: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Wellness (2018) or Mindfulness in the Workplace: Cultivating Well-Being at Work (2024).
